Winthrop University gets new home for champion Esports program – WSOC TV

In Rock Hill, South Carolina, Winthrop University is launching a brand-new space for its successful Esports program.

The university marked the opening of its latest 6,500-square-foot establishment in the Lowenstein Building on Thursday, through an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The center features five separate rooms for varsity team games and a spacious common game room that can accommodate 56 individuals.

Since its inception, Winthrop has secured two national championships for League of Legends and Valorant, a Big South championship, and made 11 major tournament appearances.

Initiated in 2019, Winthrop’s Esports program has proven to be a remarkable success and is currently among the fastest-growing initiatives in the US. The university’s League of Legends and Valorant teams welcome members from around the country.

The university mentioned that the new extensive facility will assist in scaling the Esports program through possible junior varsity and club divisions.

It has been stated by the university that the lease for the new facility will last until June 2028.
