Sports Minister Postulates Growth of eSports in Nigeria Will Not be Overlooked – New National Star

The esteemed Sports Development Minister of Nigeria, Senator John Owan Enoh, has expressed Nigeria’s fascination for the potential of eSports, often referred to as electronic or gaming sports.

During a discussion with Nigerian eSports advocates, including Mr. Clinton Agbor Ayuk, the Minister shared this sentiment at his Abuja office.

Senator Enoh conveyed his belief in the bright future of eSports growth and development. He underscored that sports as a field provide young Nigerians with profound social inclusion, and thus, eSports, powered by gaming technology, should play an equally crucial role in the country.

“The scope for growth, evolution, and development of eSports as a recognized sport in our nation appears immense,” stated Senator Enoh.

“In assessing this sport, it’s evident that as a ministry, and as a nation, we can no longer overlook the significance of eSports since it’s progressing regardless of our recognition.”

“For instance, promoting sports as a sector that fosters the highest degree of social inclusiveness and addresses unemployment can significantly alleviate poverty.”

“In terms of addressing national security issues, I am confident that eSports would strengthen the binding forces of our society even more so than other sectors.”

The delegation leader, Mr. Clinton Agbor Ayuk, explained that their visit aimed to express their support for the Minister, known for his impartiality towards all sports, regardless of their significance.

He utilised the occasion to update the Minister on their numerous competition participations over the last eight years. He also discussed their recent accomplishment at the Afro Arab championship in Saudi Arabia, where nearly 200 players proudly represented their side.

“We consider you as a father figure as we’ve often heard you claim to be the father of all sports. We felt it was fitting to identify with you, to reaffirm to the world that your ministry represents all sporting activities.”

The eSports delegation secretary, Mr. Armstrong Ogwuche, stated that eSports is globally recognised as the fastest expanding sport. He stressed that Nigerian youth eagerly participate in eSports, viewing it as a multibillion-naira industry with huge growth potential, positioning Nigeria as an attractive emerging market.
