SEAN McCOMB will have the opportunity to elevate his career to a new level on May 20th.
Boxing News has learned that the 31-year-old will face Arnold Barboza as part of the Devin Haney-Ryan Garcia undercard at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.
McComb, with a record of 18-1 (5 KOs), has shown resilience with seven consecutive wins following his unexpected defeat to Gavin Gwynne in their Commonwealth lightweight title bout in 2021.
Transitioning to super-lightweight, McComb showcased his skills in his most recent victory over Sam Maxwell in Belfast. The former British 140lbs champion was unable to match up to McComb, hitting the canvas three times before retiring from the sport.
Although facing Arnold Barboza poses a challenge for McComb, it is not his first time competing in America. In October 2018, McComb secured his fourth professional victory by defeating Carlos Galindo on a Matchroom show in Boston.
Barboza, a strong favorite, is putting his mandatory position with the WBO at risk by facing McComb. Ranking seven places higher than McComb, the unbeaten 32-year-old Californian has shown his readiness to step in for Ryan Garcia if needed.
Last November, Barboza signed with Golden Boy Promotions after parting ways with Top Rank. He made his debut for Oscar De La Hoya on January 6, defeating Xolisani Ndongeni in an impressive display.
