Spectre, an anticipated first-person shooter by Mountaintop, appears to bear several resemblances to Riot Games’ acclaimed esports, Valorant. Though no formal specifics about the game’s capabilities have been disclosed, leaked gaming footage has found its way onto X and Reddit, among other social media platforms. This has sparked interest and anticipation among players eager to engage with the new game title.
Valorant has firmly established itself in the esports arena, accumulating a vast player base. Despite Valve overhauling Counter-Strike: Global Offensive into Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), the latter still lacks a seamless gameplay experience. This has bolstered the growth of Riot’s game further since it faces limited competition – a situation soon to be challenged by the arrival of Spectre.
In this article, we focus on providing details about Mountaintop’s latest shooter title, Spectre.

What We Know about Spectre So Far
Apart from some playtester posts on X by Mountaintop, not much information about the game’s mechanics, modes, or competition features has been officially announced. However, a few leaks have given us an idea of what to expect in the final game.
The game, seemingly, will provide four beginner modes – Casual, Ranked, Custom, and Tutorial. While the Casual, Custom, and Tutorial modes are expected to be released with the initial game launch, the competitive playlist may be delayed. This is mainly because the game has to undergo a series of stress tests, allowing developers to fine-tune it for ranked play.
Data miners also discovered the possibility of a unique mode named Duality. Reportedly, this mode will allow players to switch between two characters, but players are unlikely to control both simultaneously to avoid complex gameplay. Leaked footage reveals that when one character is beaten in Duality, the player then takes control of the second character.
This innovative approach is quite unique in the realm of first-person shooters, and offers a fresh departure from Valorant’s traditional round-based structure, thereby setting Spectre apart.
The artistic style and animations are seemingly inspired by manga, a form of graphic novel originating from Japan. This gives Spectre a unique edge, moving it away from realistic titles like CS2 and bringing it closer to games like Valorant and Overwatch 2.
Mountaintop’s development team consists of seasoned contributors who’ve had significant experience with games such as Counter-Strike, Apex Legends, Halo, Overwatch, Battlefield, and Valorant. Lee Horn, Game Director at Mountaintop, disclosed their intent to revolutionize the genre and create an innovative product.
Horn additionally revealed that regular community contests would be integrated as a core feature from the start. This could potentially bring Spectre in direct competition with Valorant’s Premiere system and provide a platform for undiscovered talent to emerge.
