Manchester United are exploring the possibility of signing Burnley forward Wout Weghorst on loan.

Weghorst is currently on loan at Besiktas but Sky Sports News understands United have made initial contact with Burnley to find out if a deal is possible.

The deal is slightly complicated as it would require Burnley and Besiktas to agree to cut short Weghorst’s loan.

The Transfer Show panel discuss whether Manchester United will be likely to make a move for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix

Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth:

“It is no secret Man Utd’s priority is to bring in a number nine. A long-term number nine is what Erik ten Hag is after, but I don’t think they will necessarily get that in January, simply because of budgets and unless a long-term target becomes available.

“When you are looking at players that United are looking at they are normally with big clubs, they are normally in the Champions League and clubs are normally very reluctant to allow players to go mid-season. If they do the price would be much higher than if it would be in the summer.

“Therefore, I think United are looking at the loan market. The idea of Joao Felix works because it would be a loan deal but as of Monday, the information I’m getting is that United had moved on to other targets.

“I was told that a deal for Joao Felix was not on the agenda at all based on the terms quoted. There were no live negotiations.

“That of course can change if the figures quoted come down and the £3.5m being reported can be agreed upon. However, that is a big reduction from what Atletico are after, but the Spanish club’s terms are well in access of what United’s transfer budget is for this month.”

Man Utd agree loan deal for Jack Butland

Manchester United have signed Jack Butland from Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season, with it being understood United will pay his wages in full for the time the goalkeeper spends at Old Trafford.

Man Utd still searching for forward and right-back

Manchester United continue to assess all options with regard to signing a striker and a right-back.

If a player does arrive in January, it will almost certainly be on loan but there is a significant chance the club will not sign anyone next month.

A right-back is not seen as a priority given the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the return to fitness of Diogo Dalot. Wan-Bissaka has started United’s last four games in all competitions.

One source has told Sky Sports News United have done “due diligence” on a number of players including Celtic’s Josip Juranovic, but the primary focus remains on a forward and a ‘keeper.

A permanent deal in January cannot be completely ruled out but only if a long-term target becomes available, and that spending would form part of next summer’s budget.

As it stands, a loan move is more likely than a permanent deal – if they are to bring anyone in over the January transfer window.

Man Utd ‘preparing summer move for Napoli star Kim’

Manchester United are preparing a summer move for Napoli centre-back Kim Min-Jae, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag is actively looking to strengthen his defence ahead of next season and the South Korea international has emerged as a potential addition.

Kim only arrived in Italy in July, but his form for Napoli has alerted United. He has started all but one game in Serie A and furthered his reputation by starring at the World Cup as South Korea reached the last 16.

Napoli have a £38m release clause on Kim, which puts them in a vulnerable situation ahead of the summer window.

Man Utd trigger Rashford, Shaw, Dalot and Fred extensions

Manchester United have triggered one-year options to extend the contracts of Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Fred to the end of the 2023/24 season.

It is also understood the same action has not been taken for David de Gea’s contract, with the club in positive talks with the Spain goalkeeper about a potential new deal.
