A lawsuit has been reportedly filed by EDward Gaming, popularly known as LPL, against its former LoL player Lee ‘Scout’ Ye-chan following a contract dispute. Scout is currently playing for LNG Esports and was awarded Most Valuable Player at the 2021 Worlds Finals.

Information about the legal case is popping up on Chinese forums and social media. It reveals that a court hearing is planned for Thursday, July 20, in Minhang, a district in Shanghai, China.

The dispute reportedly stems from Scout’s controversial exit from EDward Gaming in December 2022. After an accomplished six-year stint with EDG, Scout transitioned to LNG Esports, another LPL team.

Edward Zhu, EDG’s owner, allegedly disclosed in December that the organization had nearly doubled Scout’s salary after their victorious World Championship run in 2021. Apparently, Scout had agreed to join an LCK team (possibly KT Rolster) while still under contract with EDG.

This issue was resolved after a discussion with Riot, but Scout later again expressed his desire to go back to Korea after the 2022 season ended. Zhu stated that EDG allowed Scout to join an LCK team offering him better pay.

However, no such offer came, resulting in an uncomfortable scenario when Scout returned to China, according to Zhu.

Eventually, Scout landed with LPL competitor, LNG, where a vacuum was left by their mid laner, Kim ‘Doinb’ Tae-sang, moving on. The team currently ranks fourth in the LPL Summer standings with a 10-4 record and has secured a position in the playoff stage featuring the top ten teams of the regular season.

To date, Scout has not provided any comments regarding the issue. The Korean mid laner, who bagged the MVP title of the Worlds 2021 Finals, began his career with SK Telecom T1 in 2015 and 2016 before moving to China to further his career.
