JHS announces Snow King court | News, Sports, Jobs



MIFFLINTOWN — The extended forecast shows flurries, which would provide the perfect backdrop for crowning this year’s Snow King at Juniata High School on Thursday.

This year’s festivities take place during halftime of the varsity boys basketball game between host Juniata and rival East Juniata. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Juniata High School gymnasium.

Snow King candidates were selected by various groups, including the senior class, athletics, student council, Key Club, SADD, newspaper club, FFA, HOSA, building trades, National Honor Society, music, and art programs, and yearbook staff. The following seniors were selected:

Harrison Mummah

The son of Ken and Tawny Mummah, of Port Royal, Harrison was selected by the winter sports teams. His school activities include serving as vice president of student council, National Honor Society, wrestling, football, and track and field. Outside of school, he participates in youth group, scouts, and Order of the Arrow. His escort is Aspen Eby, granddaughter of Dave and Kristi Cisney, of Mifflintown.

Westin Landis

The son of J Scott and Mandy Landis, of Port Royal, Westin was chosen by FFA, HOSA, and building trades. His future plans include custom farming/mechanics. Westin’s school activities include FFA, while he works for Tuscarora Ag outside of school. His escort is Alexa Kuhn, daughter of Michelle Kuhn and Travis Myers, of Mifflintown.

Seth Laub

The son of Shawn and Angela Laub, of Port Royal, Seth was selected by the senior class. His future plans are to attend Washington and Jefferson University to major in biology then go on to pharmacy school to obtain his doctorate in pharmacy. Seth’s school activities include Varsity J, Scholastic J, yearbook staff, student council, baseball, bocce, football, and National Honor Society. Outside of school, he works at Buttonwood Campground, Mifflintown. His escort is Lexi Frontz, daughter of Corey and Nicole Frontz, of Thompsontown.

Slone Smith

The son of Zac and Tammy Smith, of Mifflintown, Slone was selected by the service organizations student council, Key Club, SADD, and newspaper club. He plans to attend Penn State and become a band director in the future. Slone’s school activities include serving treasurer of student council, president of the senior class, and president of the National Honor Society as well as being a member of band, chorus, the school musical, jazz band, and jazz combo. Outside of school, Slone’s activities include being his church’s organist and pianist as well as a member of the Greenwood Community Band. His escort is Haley Mummah, daughter of Ken and Tawny Mummah, of Port Royal.

Xane Whitesel

The son of Darin and Kristen Whitesel, of Mifflintown, Xane was picked by the National Honor Society. He wants to attend college and major in business and play tennis. His school activities include National Honor Society and tennis. Xane attends South Juniata Baptist Church outside of school, along with helping on his farm and playing on the junior tennis team at Hershey Racquet Club. His escort is Ava Stoner, daughter of Toby and Melanie Stoner, of Mifflintown.

Christopher Martin

The son of Justin and Mandy Martin, of Mifflintown, Christopher was selected by the music, art, and yearbook programs. His future plans are to attend college for robotics. His school activities include band, chorus, marching band, jazz band, tennis, and golf. Outside of school, Christopher volunteers with Fame EMS and plays in a community band. His escort is Natalie Popp, daughter of Terry and Elisabeth Popp, of Mifflin.
