Esports World Cup confirms CS2 competition

The second game to be confirmed for the EWC lineup is CS2.

CS2 has been confirmed to be a part of the Saudi Arabian esports festival by the Esports World Cup. The tournament’s X account made this announcement.

The second game EWC has revealed to be a part of its event is CS2. Earlier, the organizers boasted StarCraft II as part of its lineup, while they let on the team’s qualification process for the competition. EWC competitors include Joona “Serral” Sotala and Clément “Clem” Desplanches.

CS2’s Role in the Esports World Cup

EWC has confirmed the inclusion of the CS2 competition, alluding to Cologne, one of the most notable tournaments of the game. The road to the EWC in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital commences in Cologne.

It’s implied that the IEM Cologne 2024’s champion will secure a spot in EWC. Today, it was confirmed by the organizers that the winner of the ongoing IEM Katowice 2024 will similarly earn a place in the EWC CS2 contest.

ESL is the organizer for both IEM Cologne and IEM Katowice. Ralf Rechert, the founder of ESL, is the CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation and the ESL Faceit Group is owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

Insights on the Esports Festival

The Esports World Cup, slated for the summer of 2024, is set to incorporate more games into its lineup. The competition features a system of ranking across different games.

Apart from individual game results, a cross-game ranking system will also be in place. Respective performances of athletes in different games will add up to the points for their esports clubs, to compete for the ultimate title of being the best in the world.

The organizers promise via the official Esports World Cup’s FAQ that more games, in addition to CS2 and StarCraft II which are already on board, will be announced over the following months.
