EAST PALESTINE — The high school may be the next to join the trend of implementing an Esports program for students.
During this month’s board of education meeting it was discussed that the high school is exploring the requirements of starting a program.
District Superintendent Chris Neifer said that Esports is a rapidly growing sports option in the state.
Other districts in Columbiana County, including West Branch and Salem, have shown an interest in the alternative for their students.
Neifer said competition seasons run a few times a year, with the next one slated for January.
“This would be incorporated into our makerspace in the high school and require the purchase of some new technology equipment,” Neifer said.
In other business, the board approved:
— A classified contract for Clinton Young, bus driver.
— Mary Friedberg, substitute bus driver
— Days without pay for Erica St Espirit beginning Jan. 8, 2023 until the end of the school year.
