QUEENSBERRY PROMOTIONS have stated that the Zhilei Zhang-Joe Joyce rematch is scheduled for September.
However, Terry Lane, manager of the Chinese heavyweight, did not confirm this when approached by Boxing News.
In April, Zhang became a genuine contender after defeating the seemingly unstoppable ‘Juggernaut’ in seven rounds.
Although Zhang was in line for a shot at Tyson Fury, Joyce activated a rematch clause, giving him another chance to defeat ‘Big Bang’.
Recent reports suggest that the return bout is set for September 2 in London, but Lane has not confirmed this.
Zhang signed a multi-fight deal with Queensberry after his win, joining their heavyweight roster, which includes Joyce, Fury, and Daniel Dubois.
Queensberry CEO George Warren confirmed the Zhang-Joyce rematch to BN.
In a recent interview, Joyce admitted to being surprised by Zhang’s skills, but is confident he can win.
Zhang believes that Joyce has a lack of self-belief and is aiming for a more dramatic finish in their next meeting.
If Joyce evens the score in September, it will coincide with his 38th birthday.
