Zhilei Zhang impressed by British heavyweight

ZHILEI ZHANG declined to discuss how he could defeat Daniel Dubois if they ever faced off, but he did have some positive words for the British fighter in a recent interview with Boxing News.

Zhang faced a setback in his career in March when he lost to Joseph Parker on points, but he bounced back with an impressive fifth-round victory over Deontay Wilder three months later.

At 41 years old, Zhang has a knockout ratio of 81% in 30 fights and is now among the contenders eager to take on Dubois, who recently defeated Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois, who has losses to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk on his record, is currently the IBF heavyweight champion and is in top form. Zhang praised Dubois, known as ‘Dynamte’ Daniel, and elaborated on why he is impressed with him in his interview with BN.

“People may see him as a quitter, but I don’t view him that way,” Zhang commented.

“In his fight before Usyk against Kevin Lerena, there were rumors about a knee injury, but he showed his intelligence and boxing skills. He knows how to protect himself and make a strong comeback.

“For example, when his eyesocket was broken in the fight against Joyce, he utilized the rules to his advantage by taking a knee to regroup. It was a smart move that led to his successful comeback with three consecutive wins, propelling him to the top of the heavyweight division.

“I admire his mentality and approach to the sport. He is confident, hungry, and young. Overall, I believe he is a fantastic fighter.”
