UMD women’s soccer surprises Augustana – Duluth News Tribune

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Minnesota Duluth was outshot 23-5 by Augustana in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women’s soccer on Sunday, but they count goals on the scoreboard: the Bulldogs had one and the Vikings didn’t.

It was Hannah Caldwell’s strike in the 67th minute that ended up deciding it as the Bulldogs knocked off a Vikings side that stands in fourth in the NSIC with three games remaining.

UMD (6-6-3, 5-4-3 NSIC) closed to within a point of eighth-place Winona State for the last spot in the NSIC Tournament.

The Vikings pressed the issue in the first half, forcing UMD goalkeeper Jennifer Norris to make five saves while the Bulldogs generated just one shot on target. Even after Caldwell’s goal, the Vikings continued to push offensively, forcing Norris to make four more saves. She finished with a game total of 11, equaling a season high, in recording her third shutout of the season.

UMD plays Friday at Minnesota State Moorhead.
