TWU basketball team make school history – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

After returning from spring break, Texas Woman’s University students showed their excitement on Monday as they rallied for the upcoming NCAA Division II Basketball game.

“Yeah, I mean it’s March,” expressed TWU Head Basketball Coach Beth Jillson. “So you gotta put on your dancin’ shoes!”

Jillson’s TWU Pioneer basketball team is embracing their mascot’s spirit by venturing into uncharted territory in the NCAA Division II tournament.

“These games are special for a lot of reasons. One, we’re making history, but also…making it to the ‘Elite 8’ would be the first time ever in program history,” shared Jillson. “Ashley Ingram has accomplished something no other player in our program has done. She is the MVP of the region and the conference.”

TWU is set to face UT Tyler, the only remaining Texas school in the NCAA Division II tournament.

“Our fans keep coming out because it’s so much fun to watch,” Jillson mentioned. “Our players do an amazing job of engaging the crowd and getting everyone on their feet!”

“It’s a new achievement for us,” added TWU Student Government Association President Elizabeth Ramirez. “It’s really exciting, especially as a women’s team.”

During an afternoon rally, Celeste Aldaco expressed, “They represent us very well with the TWU spirit. Hopefully we will win this. Wait, no, we will win!”

TWU and UT Tyler will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at TWU, with the winner advancing to the ‘Elite 8’.
