Sunny Edwards-Adrian Curiel confirmed for Estrada-Rodriguez card on June 29

SUNNY EDWARDS is set to make his return to the ring in America on June 29.

The 28-year-old British boxer will be facing Mexico’s Adrian Curiel in a flyweight bout, as both fighters aim to bounce back with a win.

Edwards vs. Curiel will be the co-main event of the Jesse Rodriguez-Juan Francisco Estrada fight at the Footprint Centre in Phoenix, Arizona.

Last December, Edwards defended his IBF world flyweight title in a unification bout against WBO champion Rodriguez in Arizona. Despite a strong start from Edwards, Rodriguez dominated the fight, leading to Edwards’ corner stopping the fight at the end of the ninth round.

After the loss, Edwards, with a record of 20-1 (4), expressed interest in moving down to the light-flyweight division and challenging Sivenathi Nonthshinga for the IBF title at 108lbs.

Nonthshinga is looking to unify the division by facing WBO champion Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez in June. If that fight doesn’t happen, a mandatory defense against Cristian Araneta might be next for Nonthshinga.

Curiel, with a record of 24-5-1 (5), recently lost to Nonthshinga in a rematch, where he was unable to defend his IBF light-flyweight belt. Despite a knockout victory over Nonthshinga in their first bout, Curiel was defeated in the rematch after 10 rounds of intense action.

If Edwards emerges victorious on June 29, he could be in line for another shot at a world title. Alternatively, a domestic showdown with undefeated Matchroom fighter Galal Yafai could also be on the cards.
