PSG vs Strasbourg Prediction: Ligue 1 Match

The first domestic league matches in France take place on Wednesday, as Ligue 1 resumes following France’s World Cup defeat against Argentina. Reigning champions PSG will be among the teams in action, as they host relegation-threatened Strasbourg.

Ligue 1 Preview

There will be a lot of attention on PSG as they resume their Ligue 1 title defence on Wednesday against Strasbourg. Lionel Messi will not be back in Paris to play in this fixture following his heroics in Argentina’s victory in Qatar. However, Kylian Mbappe is already back in full-training with the Parisians following his hat-trick in the final, and the Frenchman could feature at the Parc Des Princes.

PSG are in a commanding position in the French league standings, as they comfortably sit five points clear of Lens coming into their 16th game of the season. They have picked up victories in each of their previous five league matches, and are still yet to suffer a single defeat in Ligue 1 this term. PSG also has the strongest defensive record, having allowed just nine.

It has been a different story for Strasbourg to this point, as they sit deep in the midst of a relegation battle. They are currently 19th in the standings, and two points from safety after winning just once in their 15 league fixtures this term. However, draws have been their biggest issue throughout the season, as they have been held a league-high eight times.

Strasbourg come into this daunting challenge against PSG having failed to win in their previous five, while they have lost twice during that period. However, this could arguably be the best time to face the champions as they get to grips with domestic action again after the World Cup.

PSG vs Strasbourg Head to Head

Strasbourg has won just once in ten previous fixtures against PSG in Lige 1. However, the most recent fixture between the sides saw the points shared following a dramatic 3-3 draw. Still, PSG has won four of the previous five matches.

PSG vs Strasbourg Prediction

While this may be a good time to face PSG, we still expect the reigning champions to come out with all guns blazing in this fixture. Mbappe’s inclusion could ring alarm bells for the relegation-threated side, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Frenchman score at least twice in a comfortable win.
