The paranormal game Phasmophobia was expected to receive a significant update and modification by July’s end. Alas, Kinetic Games announced today that the update has been delayed.
Every aspect of the Phasmophobia game is due for an upgrade in the forthcoming update. The game will be reset, including player levels and acquired income, with a plethora of new equipment being introduced. Consequently, the developers are labelling this the “most extensive update to date”.
Previously earmarked for a late July release, the Version 0.9.0 update is now expected in mid-August. However, the comprehensive game overhaul should be completed before Phasmophobia is released on console at August’s end.
While specifics of the colossal update have not been revealed yet, some teasers have been shared. The reset update will essentially take every player back to square one. Players who have participated before this update will receive a distinctive badge on their character, memorializing their earlier level before being reset.
In this revised version, all equipment, except Cursed Possessions, will be divided into three tiers; the lowest being the least efficient, the middle tier maintaining the previous effectiveness, while the highest tier hosts the most efficient version of the equipment.
Players can already preview these tiers in the Phasmophobia game hub where they are displayed in the equipment shop. Regardless of the various equipment tiers, players can select their preferred version as each piece is configurable and can be improved.

Though the 0.9.0 update, set to dramatically modify Phasmophobia, is noteworthy, it is just one facet of the developers’ broader objective to thoroughly recreate the game for Horror 2.0. Furthermore, they plan to introduce new elements like extra maps, ghost types, evidence, and tools. Hence, the players have an exciting journey, even after this update has been implemented.
Given that the update was deferred by approximately two weeks, and considering the mid-August estimation, the expansive update could be anticipated anywhere between Aug. 7 and 18.
