Despite a weaker-than-expected stage from Oxygen Esports, the North American roster has locked in a spot at the 2023 Six Invitational next February.
This is as the win pushes them up to at least seventh place meaning they’ll win 140 Six Invitational Points. These add on to the 785 they earnt due to a semi-final exit at the Charlotte Major and group stage exit at the Berlin Major to total 925. No more than 15 other teams can overtake this amount meaning they have won an invitation to Rainbow Six’s annual world championship event.
They join both Astralis and w7m esports at this event as the three qualified teams so far.
Previously Oxygen attended seven of the last eight global events missing just the Six Mexico Major. In this time they peaked with a semi-final exit at both the Charlotte Major and the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals.
In August the team opted to replace Gabriel “LaXInG” Mirelez with beastcoast’s Jacob “Sweater” Bravico leading to a number of initial defeats. After five losses in a row during Stage 3, the team has since won four running against beastcoast, Soniqs, DarkZero, and now Astralis leading to at least a seventh-place NAL finish.
Their win today also locked Mirage in for a Jönköping Major appearance over Astralis with Mirage being Mitch “Dream” Malson’s ex-organization before joining OxG.
