According to a report by Dot Esports, NRG Esports Valorant is planning to sign the core of OpTic Gaming’s Valorant roster.

OpTic had the best squad in 2022, placing in the top three at all international events and winning the first Masters. Since Jaccob ‘yay’ Whiteaker joined the squad, there have been no changes to the roster, and the team has remained together for nearly a year and a half.

NRG Valorant had no notable finishes in 2021 and only qualified for the North American Valorant Champions Tour Challengers league in 2022. However, they were not successful in securing a seat in the international competition.

NRG Esports to sign OpTic players

OpTic isn’t in the new VCT league, thus NRG Valorant is signing three of its players and coach for 2023.

Unfortunately for OpTic, they were not chosen to be one of the five North American teams to participate in the Riot Games International sponsored leagues. As a result, the organization put its players up for sale so that they could sign with one of the top teams in the league.

Dot Esports reports that Pujan ‘FNS’ Mehta, Victor ‘Victor’ Wong, Austin ‘crashies’ Roberts, and head coach Chet ‘Chet’ Singh will join NRG.

According to the source, in order for NRG to accommodate the new players, they will need to make some changes to their lineup.

Jimmy ‘Marved’ Nguyen is the only player from the former OpTic roster who apparently does not yet have a team to call home. This is likely due to the fact that yay is supposedly close to signing with Cloud9.

At the VCT Kickoff tournament that will take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil in February, fans will get the opportunity to watch the newly formed NRG Esports compete against the other 29 teams from the three leagues that have paired together.

NRG will compete in the Americas international league with Sentinels and 100 Thieves. Other teams in the league include those from Brazil called LOUD, FURIA, and MIBR. Teams from North America like Evil Geniuses and Cloud9 are also planning to compete in the league.

The worldwide leagues that take place all around the world are about, to begin with, a tournament that will last for three weeks and be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
