SWEA CITY — North Union’s Emily Meyer won her 100th career game in the pitching circle, helping the Warriors’ sotball team beat Bishop Garrigan 2-0 on Friday in Swea City.

She now had 54 career shutouts.

North Union also beat Bishop Garrigan 2-0 on June 2.

“My curveball and rise ball were my two best pitches tonight,” Meyer said. “I knew I was close to 100, but I didn’t know my exact number until after the game.”

“We stuggled swinging at too many high pitches, and Jack (Von Bank) kept on telling the girls to lay off the high pitch,” North Union head coach Kim Price said. “We have to work on that.”

North Union, the Iowa Class 2A No. 10-ranked team, had only four hits and had them in the same inning.

However, Meyer limited the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears to only two hits — both singles. The Golden Bears had a runner reach second base once, but the next player flew out to end the scoring threat.

Meyer pitched a complete game two-hiiter. She didn’t walk a hitter and struck out nine.

For the Golden Bears, Darius Goche took the loss, going three innings. She gave up two earned runs, three hits, no walks and struck out two. Ella Schaaf pitched three innings, giving up no runs, one hit, no walks and struck out four.

The game was scoreless for 3 1/2 innings before the Warriors scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Beth Streuber led-off with a laser shot solo home run over the left-field fence. Shelby Fraker followed with a bunt single. Olivia Von Bank hit a run-scoring double, scoring Fraker, and Shallie Walders had an infield single to put two runners on base.

The Warriors didn’t get another run and left four runners on base.

The Golden Bears’ offense was a Zoe Montag and Schaaf single.

The Warriors (18-6) travel to Fort Dodge to play in the St. Edmond Invitational at 10 a.m. today at the Harlan Rogers Sports Complex.
