WALNUT GROVE — Martin County West’s bats stayed hot during Saturday’s rainy and cool conditions to win the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove softball invitational in Walnut Grove.

Maverick head coach Darrell Ziegler’s batting order generated 31 runs and received two complete-game pitching performances from Maddie Carlson and one from Lina Arnold to post a 7-3 opening win over Dawson-Boyd, a 14-4 second-round decision over MACCRAY and a 10-7 third-round triumph over the host Falcons.

Arnold and Maddie Carlson also assisted their respective pitching causes with productive performances inside the batter’s box.

Ahead 3-2 heading into the sixth inning, Arnold doubled to trigger MCW’s four-run outburst to put the game in the win column against Dawson-Boyd.

Thea Anderson smacked an RBI triple to plate Arnold before Maddie Carlson brought Thea Anderson home on another run-scoring triple. Carlson later crossed the plate on a wild pitch before Ella Carlson contributed an RBI ground out.

Maddie Carlson finished with two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs, while Thea Anderson also singled and tripled to complement one RBI. Emily Anderson supplied an RBI single to the Mavericks’ cause.

Maddie Carlson allowed three runs on eight hits, recorded nine strikeouts and issued only one walk in seven innings pitched to earn the complete-game win in Game 1.

Maddie Carlson then produced three RBIs on the strength of a double and a triple to fuel MCW’s run-rule victory in five innings over MACCRAY.

Thea Anderson tripled, singled and drove in one run, while Emily Anderson and Cami Clow each doubled and knocked home two runs.

Marah Steele and Arnold each delivered RBI doubles for the Mavericks, while Hannah Rosenberg chipped in a run-scoring single.

Arnold allowed four runs on six hits, struck out two and walked one in five frames of work to earn the complete-game win.

Emily Anderson collected two RBIs, scored three runs and produced two hits to help MCW outslug host RRC/WWG, 10-7, in the final game of the tournament.

Rosenberg doubled, tripled, scored three runs and knocked in one run for MCW, while Maddie Carlson singled home a pair of runs.

Arnold chipped in a run-scoring double, while Ella Carlson delivered two singles for the Mavericks.

Maddie Carlson allowed seven runs on 11 hits, struck out nine and walked three in seven innings of work to earn the complete-game win.

Martin County West (6-3) travels to Truman on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. Valley Conference game against Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman.
