Prepare to be scared.
At least that’s the intent of people who will volunteer.
Imagine listening to haunting tales about Warren’s unluckiest early citizens while riding in a covered horse-drawn trolley through the streets of the city.
The event will be held Oct. 28 and 29 as part of the Warren County Historical Society’s Haunted House and Trolley Tours.
“It’s one of our major fundraisers,” said event coordinator Laura McDonald.
McDonald added as part of the trolley tour, the mansion which houses the historical society, located at 210 Fourth Ave., will be transformed into a haunted house. On the first floor, McDonald said there will a Victorian Funeral parlor while the second floor will house another Victorian parlor and a scary country store.
“We have the whole mansion decorated as a haunted house. It’s part of the trolley tour. There will be a storyteller on the trolley, and there are also haunted stories about the mansion as well,” McDonald said.
The trolley departs from the from the back parking lot of the historical society near the Warren County Jail and turn right on Fifth Avenue. From there, the trolley continues on Fifth Avenue to Water Street. At Water Street it makes a right and continues to Second Avenue. At Second Avenue, it makes a right and continues to Market Street. At Market Street, it makes a right and continues to Third Avenue.
At Third Avenue, the trolley will make a left turn and continue to Hickory Street. At Hickory Street, it will make a right turn to Fourth Avenue. At Fourth Avenue, it will make a right turn, and return to the historical society.
The trolley rides are one half hour apart. The stories are matched to the locations that the trolley will pass by.
While riding, patrons will hear stories about the county jail, Fifth Street Cemetery, the plight of Mr. Penfield, Alice Wetmore Jefferson, the Jamieson Apartment Building Murder, Ghosts in the Red Brick House, and a teenage boy who lost a leg.
McDonald said the trolley tours are timed, and patrons sign up for time slots. The last tour departs at about 8:30 p.m. There is one covered trolley that carries about 20-22 passengers, and any patrons under 18 have to be accompanied by an adult.
