Lucy Bigelow scored three goals and twin sisters Meea and Leyna Irwin added two goals each in Warren’s 7-0 girls soccer win on Saturday over Cambridge Springs at War Memorial Field.
“Overall, we played a great game from start to finish,” said Warren coach Mark Ordiway, whose Dragons are 2-1 overall. “I think the girls are starting to settle in and understand our formation and responsibilities. Our defense has improved from game to game as well. Our passing and ball movement was fantastic. We scored seven goals on seven assists. You don’t see that often.”
Warren led 5-0 at halftime for the second straight game.
“Leyna Irwin had a couple standout plays in my opinion,” said Ordiway. “She scored our second goal with a header off a beautifully-placed corner kick from Eliza Brook. And to end the first half, Meea Irwin made a square pass to Leyna, who connected from long range to make the lead 5-0.
“In the second half, we were able to move players around and gain additional experience that will help us going forward this year and into next season,” added Ordiway.
Bigelow, a junior, added an assist, sophomore Meea Irwin two assists, and sophomore Leyna Irwin another assist. Senior Eliza Brook added two assists as the defensive midfielder. Freshman Lani Wenzel got her first varsity points with an assist.
