The Esports Federation in Kenya has teamed up with Huawei to ensure comprehensive 5G network coverage for the forthcoming Kenya Esports Games African qualification. This collaboration aims to improve the gaming encounter for Kenyan gamers by providing them uninterrupted connectivity.
Twelve teams are participating in the eFootball category of the competition, which are spread across two groups. Kenya has been grouped in Group B, along with South Sudan, Senegal, Djibouti, Somalia, and Algeria. Group A comprises of Namibia, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, Tunisia, and South Africa. Both groups will ensure automatic qualification for their top two teams, whereas the first and second runners-up will battle it out in the semi-finals to secure the remaining spots.
Harry ‘Kappa’ Thuku, a young up-and-coming star, will be representing Kenya in the eFootball category. To accommodate the gamers, Huawei’s 5G routers will be utilised to provide Thuku and other players access to high-speed 5G networks, allowing them to perform at peak levels. 5G technology’s broad bandwidth and low latency make it perfect for gaming as it aids in keeping the gameplay flowing smoothly and eliminating buffering issues.
The Kenyan team for PUBG Mobile is set to take on nine other African countries for three slots in the mobile games category. The team members include Farhan ‘Riot’ Mughal, Jeff ‘Spiky’ Itale, Jonathan ‘Shakid’ Ngugi, Rheinehold ‘Shot’ Shume, and Douglas ‘777’ Karuku, under the guidance of coach Allan ‘Serge’ Kimani.
Kenya’s Dota2 women’s team already secured their spot for the international competition after winning the African qualifiers. The tournament is planned to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December 2023, inviting teams from Algeria, Djibouti, Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, and Zambia.
The implementation of 5G technology for the Kenya Esports Games African qualification is projected to substantially elevate the gaming experience for contenders by offering faster, more reliable connectivity. The alliance between Kenya’s Esports Federation and Huawei illustrates dedication towards the growth of the esports landscape in Kenya.
