‘I expect to qualify for the finals’

An Indian name that is stirring considerable buzz ahead of the much-anticipated VCT Pacific League is none other than Abhirup ‘Lightningfast’ Choudhury. Born in 2000, this Indian gamer is a key player in Global Esports, especially admired for his Raze performances in VALORANT.

Unfortunately, his talent was barely featured last season when he managed to participate in just two matches throughout the league due to his visa delay. As the excitement builds up for the 2024 season and the Convergence OFF//SEASON event, we had the opportunity to interact with Abhirup ‘Lightningfast’ Choudhury.

How do you feel about the upcoming Convergence event in Bangalore as an experienced VALORANT player? What parts of it excite you the most?

Abhirup ‘Lightningfast’ Choudhury: I hope to at least make it to the finals of the Convergence event. I don’t have incredibly high expectations of this tournament as we are working with a substitute player and largely view it as a platform for getting accustomed to the stage after a long hiatus. What thrills me the most is the idea of performing in front of a supportive home audience.

Since the VALORANT Convergence event is likely to draw a large crowd, what advice would you give hopeful players who could be motivated to compete?

If you are up-and-coming talent, my advice to you would be to enjoy the game and cultivate your unique approach to it. This is what makes you stand out to both the audience and professional players.

Considering VALORANT’s growing popularity in India, do you think the Convergence event could trigger the creation of a dedicated esports league in India?

I feel that VALORANT Esports League has already firmly established itself in India. However, an event as massive as this with substantial crowd pull could enhance its reputation and create a conducive competitive atmosphere.

In your view, what does the future hold for VALORANT esports in India? How do you think events like Convergence contribute to shaping this future?

VALORANT esports’ future in India holds the potential to transform PC gaming into a sustainable platform for all stakeholders – the fans, organizations, and the players. Events like Convergence can demonstrate VALORANT’s potential in India on a global stage and offer fans an insight into how much fun these events can be.

What would you like to say to the Indian VALORANT community, particularly those eagerly waiting for the Convergence event and keen to cheer on Global Esports?

After a long hibernation, Indian teams, especially Global Esports, are ready to get back into action. So, gear up, show your support for your favorite team, and prepare for an exciting competition filled with fun.

How is Global Esports gearing up for the Convergence event, given the anticipated intense competition from both domestic and international teams?

I will stick to my usual preparation strategy. Although the tournament’s significance is not lost on me, I don’t believe in succumbing to the pressure to make drastic changes. I aim to stay true to myself without worrying about others’ expectations of me.
