First esports arena for Alamo Colleges District opens

San Antonio College has officially launched its own esports arena on Wednesday, further cementing San Antonio’s position as a rising hub for one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.

This is the first gaming arena across the Alamo College District and the aim is to facilitate inter-school competitions.

The venue, situated on-campus at Loftin Student Center, room 260, is accessible to all SAC students. It houses 16 Alienware computer stations for playing games like Counterstrike 2, Rocket League, and Raid Shadow Legends.

Esports, a rapidly growing college extra-curricular activity nationwide, involves schools forming official student teams.

The multi-billion dollar esports industry has seen considerable growth in San Antonio since 2020, with similar initiatives seen at other local institutions, including Texas A&M – San Antonio and St. Mary’s University.
