Ferrari Velas Esports Championship Grand Final – GTPlanet

The 2022 Ferrari Velas Esports Series reaches its climax today, with the Grand Final coming from Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello.

Now in its third season, the championship has seen thousands for entries from both Europe and the new-for-2022 North America region. For the first time players have been competing on the Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione platforms.

Only the top 96 from each region could get through to the Regional Qualifiers earlier in the year, with the best 24 progressing to the Regional Finals. That carved the field down to just six — three from each region — who headed to Italy for the Grand Final.

Over the course of the six months of racing, Brandon Hawkin (Canada), Merick Leveque (Canada), Jonathan Riley (UK), Michael Romagnoli (Italy), Christopher Severt (USA), and Marcin Swiderek (Poland) proved themselves the fastest on both titles, and now face off for the title — and a paid seat on the Ferrari Velas Esports team in 2023.

The Grand Final has something of a twist. Along with a final race, the finalists will be set a series of challenges that will test the abilities they’ll need to be a factory professional Ferrari driver. A panel of judges made up of Ferrari representatives will decide how well they perform in these tasks and award points accordingly.

Ferrari Driver Academy FIA Formula 3 racer Arthur Leclerc, 2021 Ferrari Esports Series and Ferrari Velas Esports driver Kamil Pawlowski, and Ferrari’s esports manager Tiziana Mecozzi will form the judging panel that decides the drivers’ fates.

Along with the points from the final sim racing event, it’ll be the driver with the most accumulated points who’ll take the crown.

You can watch the Grand Final from 1900 UTC on October 2, on the official Ferrari Esports Twitch channel as well as here on GTPlanet.
