Dmitry Bivol unenthused over possible big fight rematch

DMITRY BIVOL emphasizes that if Canelo Alvarez is interested in a rematch with him, he should communicate with Eddie Hearn rather than the media.

The current WBA light-heavyweight champion is currently in London for a press conference to promote his upcoming undisputed clash on October 12 against Artur Beterbiev, who holds the WBC, IBF, and WBO titles.

More than two years ago, Bivol defended his title in Las Vegas against Canelo when the latter moved up from super-middleweight to challenge the Russian. On that night, Bivol demonstrated his superior boxing skills and emerged victorious over Canelo. Despite this, the 34-year-old has expressed interest in a rematch to redeem himself.

During an interview with Boxing News earlier today (September 25), Bivol revealed his perspective on a potential rematch with the renowned boxer.

“I don’t really dwell on it. I am currently focused on my training camp for the Beterbiev fight. If there are discussions for a rematch, he should approach [promoter] Eddie Hearn directly rather than speaking to the media,” Bivol stated.

Canelo continues to hold world titles in three weight classes, with his most recent victory being against Edgar Berlanga.

Reflecting on the fight, Bivol commented, “It was a good fight. I didn’t watch it entirely as I was busy with my training camp, but I caught a few rounds. Canelo performed well. Berlanga had the size advantage, but Canelo’s boxing skills were superior, as expected.”

Prior to the Berlanga bout, there were speculations surrounding Canelo’s future in boxing and whether he was in a declining phase due to his lengthy career. Bivol was asked about this notion by BN.

“I don’t have any insights into that. Every boxer has their own journey. We were open to a fight for over a year, but no offers materialized. It’s not something that concerns me,” Bivol responded.
