AMERICAN heavyweights Deontay Wilder and Jared Anderson could potentially face each other on August 3 if Turki Alalshikh has his way.
The chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority has been instrumental in revitalizing the heavyweight division and ensuring top promoters allow their fighters to participate in Riyadh Season events.
Recent matchups have included Wilder vs. Joseph Parker and Parker against Zhilei Zhang, with the New Zealander catapulting back into title contention with victories in both bouts.
The boxing world eagerly anticipates the clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury on May 18 to determine the first undisputed heavyweight champion. This will be followed by Filip Hrgovic defending his IBF mandatory position against Daniel Dubois, while Wilder faces Zhang in a crucial match at this stage of their careers.
If Wilder prevails against Zhang and avoids a second consecutive defeat, he could be set to square off against the rising star Anderson in the United States.
Earlier today, Alalshikh shared a photo with Anderson on Twitter and hinted at a potential matchup on the August 3 Riyadh Season card in LA against Deontay Wilder, provided Anderson is ready after his fight on June 1 against Zhilei Zhang.
Anderson, undefeated in 17 fights, is considered a future heavyweight champion by many. A potential bout against Wilder would be a significant test for the 24-year-old. In his most recent fight, Anderson defeated Ryad Merhy on points and previously notched victories against Andrii Rudenko, Charles Martin, and George Arias.
The August 3 event at the BMO Stadium will feature Terence Crawford challenging Israil Madrimov for the WBA light-middleweight title in the main event. The undercard includes exciting matchups such as Tim Tszyu vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr, David Morrell vs. Radivoje Kalajdzic, and Andy Ruiz Jr vs. Jarrell Miller.
