Meinke learned to box at Westway Amateur Boxing Club in Germany, while studying in Scarborough as a teenager. She won seven out of her 10 bouts and reached a Youth final, where she lost to Charley Davison.
Meanwhile, Davison is preparing for her second Olympics in Paris this summer, while Meinke is making her second bid to become a world champion at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan.
Back in April 2022, Meinke was outpointed by Denmark’s Sarah Mahfoud in a bid for the IBF featherweight title. This result could provide a form line to her upcoming fight, as Mahfoud later lost the belt to Serrano in September 2022.
Serrano lost three rounds on two scorecards, indicating a possible decline. However, she bounced back with wins against Erika Cruz Hernandez, Heather Hardy, and Danila Ramos.
Despite losing the WBC belt due to fighting Ramos over 12 rounds instead of 10, Serrano showed no signs of slowing down. She dominated the fight and threw 1,103 punches to secure a shutout points win.
While Meinke has primarily fought in 10-round bouts, Serrano has a wealth of experience in the pro ring, with Saturday marking her 20th ‘world’ title fight.
Although Meinke faced Taylor in 2017 and was stopped in seven rounds, she faces a tough challenge against Serrano. The build-up to the fight also included media sparring sessions and preparations for other bouts on the card.
Overall, Serrano is expected to outclass Meinke and potentially secure a late stoppage victory. The event will also feature fights between Jonathan Gonzalez and Rene Santiago, as well as Jake Paul and Ryan Bourland.
