LCK Summer 2023 playoffs sees tightened security measures

In response to recent incidences of violence and threats, The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) has decided to tighten security measures at the LoL Park throughout the remainder of the LCK Summer 2023 playoffs and finals.

Designed as a reaction to alarming disruptions that transpired earlier in August in South Korea, the LCK has put in place new protocols within the venue to curtail any possible incidents.

From August 11 onwards, LoL Park will enhance its security procedures.

The core of these improvements involves a stricter inspection of all attendees’ personal items upon entrance.

An expert team of security professionals has been hired to secure the stadium and its neighboring area in Seoul, with the aim to protect the players and fans.

Alongside this, the esports arena has been outfitted with state-of-the-art emergency response equipment.

LCK Secretary General, Lee Jeong-hoon said, “The LCK has intensified security both inside and around the venue, so players can focus on the game securely and fans can cheer without any worries.”

These procedures will also be in effect for the LCK Summer Finals 2023, to be held in Daejeon Metropolitan City, with the semi-finals at the Daejeon Convention Center and finals at the Daejeon Dream Arena.

There has been a worrying increase in random stabbing episodes in downtown Seoul during early August, compounded by anonymous online threats warning of potential similar attacks.

This unusual surge in violent actions and threats is unprecedented in South Korea, a country known for its commendably low crime rate.
