The 2023 Player 9 E-sports Tournament, hosted by 9mobile in collaboration with Gamr Africa, brought a wave of excitement to the gaming community in Lagos.
Gamers from all levels of expertise, from novices to professionals, flocked to this event for an exhilarating gaming procession.
Registration was completed by gamers both online and on site via the 9mobile-GAMR platform. Following registration, the tournament had an initial stage with 32 gamers, this was reduced to half, followed by eight for quarterfinals, then four for the semifinals and a last face-off between two gamers in the final.
Every gamer got a chance to prove their skill within a span of six minutes.
Valentine Okoye emerged victorious, walking away with a brand new PS5 console, a Samsung Galaxy Phone, and a hefty 15 GB data bundle.
The first and second runners up were awarded Samsung Phones and 11 GB data bundles each. Prizes were also handed out to other gamers, supporters and attendees who emerged victorious in different Q&A sessions.
Stationed at the event’s end, Okoye, the ecstatic winner, shared his experience: “Being a participant in this tournament was incredible. I had longed for a PS5 and being an avid gamer, I knew my skills stood a chance. Initially, it was only my brother and I sharing this passion, so I just came to enjoy myself with no pressure. Surprisingly, I emerged as the champion.
He was thankful for the networking, experience and monetary gains gaming has brought him and thanked 9mobile for this opportunity.
Ufuoma Dogun, Manager, Events and Sponsorship, 9mobile, thanked Gamr Africa for the collaboration and publicly stated 9mobile’s commitment to youth communities.
He elaborated how this event reflects 9mobile’s dedication to empowering the youth, similar to their ‘The Hack’ initiative.
Dogun also shed light on their mission of integrating Gamr and the 9mobile network, aiming to create lasting memories for the gaming community and further taking the gaming event to numerous campuses across the country.
Participants expressed their gratitude to 9mobile and Gamr for enabling their gaming skills and vouched for their return in the next edition.
