Did you know you can attend TMU Bold soccer games for free at Downsview Park? Photo credit: Curtis Martin The TMU Bold are ready to hit the field, ice and court this fall as varsity sports get underway. On Sept. 22, at a special homecoming game for the men’s hockey team, the TMU mascot will make its first appearance at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Learn more about TMU’s teams, and how to cheer them on this season, below: Women’s Soccer Coming off their third straight playoff appearance, women’s soccer started the new varsity season with a road trip then played the home opener on Sept. 9 in a 5-2 loss against Nipissing. Looking ahead, the team will take on Queen’s University on Sept. 23 in Kingston. Men’s Soccer TMU’s men’s soccer team finished 5th in Canada for the 2022-2023 season. Photo credit: Josh Kim Returning to the pitch after a conference silver medal and best-ever fifth place finish at the U SPORTS national championship last season, the men’s soccer team is eager to make the podium again this year. The squad won their first home game 8-0 against Nipissing. They will take on Queen’s in Kingston on Sept. 23. Photo credit: Curtis Martin It’s an exciting year for the men’s hockey program, starting with Homecoming celebrations on Sept. 22 against McGill at 6 p.m. The puck then drops on their regular season home opener on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. against the Windsor Lancers. Be sure to follow the team all year long including when the Bold play host to the U SPORTS University Cup national championship on home ice in March. Women’s Hockey Catch the women’s hockey team in action against Ontario Tech. Photo credit: Curtis Martin The Bold women’s hockey team brings a talented young core back to the ice this season, looking to better their quarter-finals appearance from a year ago. The first opportunity to catch the squad on home ice will be Oct. 27 when they host Ontario Tech. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Women’s Volleyball Last year’s TMU women’s volleyball team reached deep into the playoffs. Photo credit: Barry McLuskey Following a season that saw the women’s volleyball team reach the quarter-final, this year the team will be pushing for more and the home court action starts on Oct. 27 against the Western Mustangs at 6 p.m. Men’s Volleyball Alex King, pictured, was a standout player on the 2022-2023 men’s volleyball team. Photo credit: Curtis Martin With TMU’s reigning male athlete of the year, Alex King, returning to the court, the men’s volleyball team looks to top their quarter-finals appearance last year. Action begins for the Bold on Nov. 4 with a 2 p.m. start against the Windsor Lancers. Women’s Basketball Celebrated coach, Carly Clarke, is back to lead the TMU Bold women’s basketball team this fall. Photo credit: Curtis Martin Basketball returns to the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Nov. 3 when the Bold tip-off at 6 p.m. against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. After a standout summer working with Canada Basketball, head coach Carly Clarke hopes to guide the Bold back into championship contention. Men’s Basketball TMU’s men’s basketball team will start play on Nov. 3. Photo credit: Curtis Martin Following the women’s opener, the men’s basketball team also begins the season on Nov. 3, hosting the Lakehead Thunderwolves for a scheduled 8 p.m. tip-off. Cheer on the TMU Bold this season Your OneCard gets you into TMU Bold varsity games for free. Downsview Park and the Mattamy Athletic Centre will be open to spectators and fans will have lots to look forward to as they cheer on their teams. Students can attend games for free with their OneCard. Otherwise, tickets can be purchased in advance on the Mattamy Athletic Centre website (external link) . General admission for adults is $13, $10 for TMU alumni, and $8 for youth. Tickets are not required for soccer games at Downsview Park.
