The winner of New Cumberland’s “Yard of the Month” award is Dave Ewing, right, of River Avenue. Ewing admits that he likes plants and flowers, which is evident by the number of flower containers lining his sidewalk, a spokesperson explained. He also plants several small beds of flowers across the street from his house along the riverbank. His favorite, however, is his banana plant, pictured, which he cuts back and brings inside every winter. As the monthly winner, Ewing received a framed certificate; a check, which he donated back to the NC Volunteers; and a yard sign which he will keep until next month’s winner is announced. The Yard of the Month” award is a joint project of the NC Volunteers and the city of New Cumberland. Mayor Will White, left, presented the certificate and the check to Ewing.
