Sporting News gives Colts a B+ grade for offseason moves

The Indianapolis Colts are in the thick of the offseason after breaking for summer before returning to the Grand Park Sports Complex at the end of July for training camp.

While some analysts were not as impressed with the moves the Colts made this offseason, Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News feels they improved their chances of having a successful rebuild, starting with the addition of rookie Anthony Richardson.

10. Indianapolis Colts
Grade: B+

Key additions: QB Anthony Richardson, QB Gardner Minshew, WR Josh Downs, WR Isaiah McKenzie, DT Adetomiwa Adebawore, DE Samson Ebukam, CB Julius Brents

GM Chris Ballard wisely broke the recycled veteran QB cycle just in time for new offensive-minded Shane Steichen to maximize Richardson’s high-ceiling dual threat talent. They also replenished the speed and quickness in the receiving corps. The defense rebuild, however, is a little more gradual.

While we still don’t know when the Colts will give Richardson the keys to the starting role, he did split reps with veteran Gardner Minshew during OTAs and minicamp.

We didn’t get to see a whole lot of the rookie class this offseason. A few of them dealt with injuries during the spring workouts while others simply are starting their careers buried on the depth chart.

We’ll see what kind of impact the offseason moves will have for the upcoming 2023 campaign, but Iyer believes it was a solid offseason for the Colts.
