South Maui water conservation lifted | News, Sports, Jobs

The Maui County Department of Water Supply has lifted mandatory calls for water conservation in South Maui after two well pumps that service the area were repaired.

On Nov. 9, the department announced the need for mandatory water conservation for hotels, businesses, residents and visitors in South Maui after high water demand of 13 million gallons per day led to the mechanical failure of two well pumps.

The pumps are now fully operational, the department said Wednesday.

However, with Maui County still under moderate to extreme drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the department still encourages water conservation.
