FREE agent Shakur Stevenson will meet with Eddie Hearn on Monday (July 15) as he continues to seek out the best deal for his career.
The 27-year-old defeated Artem Harutyunyan eight days ago to sign off on his time working with Top Rank, where he became a three-weight world champion. Stevenson’s performance drew criticism, but he delivered big numbers on TV and at the gate, according to Hearn.
Stevenson has already met with Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions and hasn’t ruled out joining Mayweather Promotions. Hearn and Matchroom Boxing have now entered the picture as they look to add Stevenson to their roster. The WBC lightweight champion says his next promoter needs to deliver.
“I want big fights,” Stevenson told DAZN’s Chris Mannix
“There’s a lot of big name fighters out there. William Zepeda, Gervonta Davis, [Vasiliy] Lomachenko – I want the biggest and best fights available.”
Zepeda – promoted by Golden Boy – is the number one lightweight contender across all four sanctioning bodies. Stevenson was asked for his assessment of his Mexican rival.
“Hell of a fighter,” he replied.
“I don’t think I’ve been in the ring – in my professional career – with a fighter like that. He throws a bunch of punches. He’s great with his own style but a guy like that would bring out the best in me.”
The unbeaten Stevenson was at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night in Philadelphia, where Hearn’s latest big-name signing, Jaron Ennis, was in town to defend his welterweight world title against David Avanesyan.
“I love seeing everybody out after me,” Stevenson said.
“I haven’t made no decisions yet. I can’t wait to go sit at the table and talk to them and see who got the best options for me, best setup for me and see where we go from there.”
