YOUNGSTOWN — Romeo David Zarlenga, 93, of Youngstown, formerly of Croton Avenue, passed away Tuesday evening , Oct. 18, 2022, at Hospice House in Poland.
Born Dec. 6, 1928, in New Castle, Pa., Romeo was the son of the late Liberato and Clara DePinto Zarlenga.
On May 28, 1955, Romeo married his beloved wife, the former Nellie Rand. She preceded him in death March 10, 2012.
Romeo worked as a maintenance foreman for 38 years at LTV Steel Seamless Division in Campbell.
He had proudly served his country as a member of the Army during the Korean War era.
Romeo was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary Church.
Romeo loved being outdoors, going for walks, gardening and doing yard work. He also enjoyed being in his garage building or repairing everything for his family, neighbors and friends. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, Romeo’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Romeo is survived by his children, Barbara Whiteside (Timothy) of Dacula, Ga., Brenda Becker (David) of Safety Harbor, Fla. and Beverly McConahy (Bill) of Boardman; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Romeo was preceded in death by two brothers, Al and Frank Zarlenga; and four sisters, Alice Hay, Carmella Kazenski, Beatrice Fee and Mary DeVitto.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St., New Castle, Pa.
The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military rites on Friday at the funeral home at 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service. Deacon John Carran will officiate.
Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery.
