Kai Havertz: Chelsea agree €80m fee plus €20m add-ons for Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz is set to join Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of €80m, plus an additional €20m in add-ons. The two clubs have been in talks for several weeks, and Chelsea has now finalized a deal to pay £89m for the player.

Although Havertz is keen to join Chelsea, he has not yet undergone a medical. He is currently with the German national team for their UEFA Nations League fixtures with Switzerland and Spain. Chelsea previously set a club-record deal when signing Kepa Arizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for £71.6m in 2018.

Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz has stated that it is unlikely Havertz will train with the club as he prepares to join Chelsea. Havertz will become part of Frank Lampard’s squad, which already includes Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, and others.

As part of the deal, Chelsea has offered to allow Leverkusen to sign one of their summer arrivals, Malang Sarr, on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old midfielder had an outstanding season, scoring 18 goals and making eight assists in the 2019/20 campaign. Real Madrid was reportedly also interested in signing Havertz but was unable to follow through due to financial issues.

Havertz started his career with Bayer Leverkusen, appearing in 150 games and securing 46 goals for the club. He has received praise from various figures, including his former coach, Adam Bate.

In other news, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez warned Zinedine Zidane not to expect any signings for the club due to the financial impact of the pandemic.
