Jamie Moore suggests Cameron and Taylor put both undisputed crowns on the line in rematch

CHANTELLE CAMERON is not excited about the prospect of returning to Ireland for a rematch with Katie Taylor.

The 32-year-old defeated the Irish icon on May 20 at the 3Arena in Dublin. On the night, Cameron proved to be overall superior and handed Taylor her first professional loss.

Cameron 18-0 (8) retained her four belts at 140lbs and seems likely to defend them against the same opponent in November.

“She wants the rematch. It seems like it will be in Dublin. I’d rather it wasn’t, but if I have to go back, I have to go back, and it looks like I will once again fight for my belts,” Cameron said on the BBC 5 Live Boxing Podcast.

Taylor already had a contractual rematch clause and expressed her desire to have a second chance shortly after the defeat. However, Cameron likes the idea of proving herself in the lightweight category, where Taylor holds all the titles.

“I wanted to challenge myself and compete in a new weight division [and] become undisputed. I defended my belts against [Jessica] McCaskill, who was the undisputed 147 champion. She did not want to give me a rematch, and they did not want to see the fight again, so that was fair enough.

“I put my belts on the line against Katie Taylor and defeated her. I thought it was a good opportunity to set myself a challenge and move down to lightweight, a weight division I believe I am better at.”

Her trainer, Jamie Moore, joined her on the podcast and stated that making the lightweight limit would not be a problem.

“She can easily compete at lightweight,” Moore affirmed before suggesting a compromise to satisfy both fighters.

“Obviously, Chantelle wants the chance to become a world champion in a different weight class. We understand that Katie wants to try and overturn the decision and still has the desire to become undisputed in two weight classes. Why not fight for both belts? In that case, everyone would be a winner. Chantelle still gets the opportunity to become a two-weight world champion, and so does Katie.”
