Jai Opetaia relocates to London ahead of Jack Massey showdown

IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia has established his training camp in London for the final stages of preparation.

Opetaia is scheduled to go up against England’s Jack Massey in Riyadh on October 12 and returned to London for the press conference last week.

Instead of enduring another 30-hour journey back to Australia, Opetaia and his team opted to finalize their preparations in London before heading to Saudi Arabia next month.

The 29-year-old has been training in various gyms and has engaged in sparring sessions with fighters like Dan Azeez.

This move also indicates that both Opetaia and WBO champion Chris Billam-Smith are now training in London for the first time, potentially setting up a unification bout between them next year if they emerge victorious in their upcoming matches.

Reflecting on the decision to conclude camp in London, Opetaia commented, “It’s good to embrace new challenges and step out of our comfort zone. We’ve had valuable sparring opportunities that we wouldn’t have had back home.”

“We’ll push ourselves to the limit here and then head to Riyadh to get the job done.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done, we’re not done yet. I’m ready to face tough challenges.”
