In an article published on their website, the WBA stated that NoXcuse Boxing Promotions sent a formal request on September 13, which was considered and consulted with Albert Batyrgaziev’s team, the mandatory 130 lbs. challenger. After analysis and following organization rules, the request was granted to Roach under specific conditions.
If Roach defeats Davis and clinches the WBA lightweight championship, he will have five days to choose which title to keep and defend. In case of a loss, Roach must face the official 130-pound challenger within 120 days of the Davis fight.
Rumors about a bout between the two 29-year-olds had been circulating in the boxing world lately. Davis last fought in June, defeating Frank Martin in eight rounds. Thirteen days later, Roach also secured a victory against Feargal McCrory in a successful title defense.
