In the AFL trade news, it has been confirmed that Jade Gresham will play for Essendon next year. The club’s offer triggered adequate compensation for St Kilda, which will be at the end of the first round. It took Essendon until the final day of contract lodgements to submit an offer, but the deal has been accepted by the Saints due to the free agency compensation and the salary cap space that will be freed up.

Jack Gunston is seeking a trade back to Hawthorn after spending one year with the Brisbane Lions. Brisbane is aware of Gunston’s desire to return to Victoria. Meanwhile, Fremantle is pushing for Collingwood’s future first-rounder in exchange for Lachie Schultz instead of this year’s first-rounder, hoping that Collingwood has a drop-off in performance next year. It is uncertain if Collingwood will accept this proposal.

There are reports suggesting that Geelong is becoming difficult to deal with in trade negotiations. The club is playing hardball with Port Adelaide over a potential deal involving Esava Ratugolea. This is the second year in a row that Port Adelaide has tried to acquire Ratugolea, but Geelong has rejected their offers. There are concerns that Geelong may have a reputation for being difficult to deal with, similar to Essendon in previous trade periods.

The free agency deadline has arrived, and Essendon is expected to make a decision on how much to offer Jade Gresham. St Kilda has stated that they will match the deal if it does not meet their requirements for compensation. If unable to reach a deal, Essendon could use the pre-season draft to secure Gresham. St Kilda has three days to decide whether to match the offer once it is lodged.

Other deals still in progress include Lachie Schultz’s potential move from Fremantle to Collingwood, Elijah Hollands’ move from Gold Coast to Carlton, and Tom Fullarton’s move from Brisbane to Melbourne. Other players involved in potential trades include Shane McAdam, Esava Ratugolea, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, Xavier Duursma, Jordon Sweet, Mabior Chol, Tyler Brockman, Jacob Koschitzke, and Massimo D’Ambrosio.
