Fort Myers Beach Fire Department Official Jennifer Campbell has declared that “no one is permitted” on Fort Myers Beach for the next week following a decision by the department and National Urban Search and Rescue.
Fort Myers Beach Communications Director said the department and National Urban Search and Rescue made the decision to close the beach Sunday night for a week.
Fort Myers Beach Chief Ronald Martin and Town of Fort Myers Beach Manager Roger Hernstadt have not responded to messages left since Hurricane Ian began.
Campbell stated the department has “no numbers” for missing persons and officials have not yet provided any details on deaths on Fort Myers Beach.
Sources have reported a half dozen deaths on Fort Myers Beach from Hurricane Ian as of Friday.
