DMITRY BIVOL could potentially defend his WBA light-heavyweight title against Lyndon Arthur this winter.
Discussions have commenced regarding a showdown between the top-ranked Bivol and Manchester’s Arthur, 23-1 (16).
Bivol’s last bout was a unanimous decision victory over Gilberto Ramirez in Abu Dhabi in November. He had hoped to secure an exciting undisputed fight against Artur Beterbiev this year.
However, that match did not materialize as Beterbiev opted to face mandatory challenger Callum Smith. Consequently, Bivol had to explore other options for an opponent. According to Boxing News, Matchroom has reached out to Wasserman, who promotes Arthur, for a potential clash. If this fight proceeds, it would likely occur in America in December and be broadcast live on DAZN.
Arthur recently halted Braian Suarez in the 10th round of a bout in Bolton on September 1 and is now seeking a higher-profile opponent. However, if Matchroom and Wasserman fail to reach an agreement, it is probable that Arthur will face Craig Richards later this year.
Richards has been absent since his defeat to Joshua Buatsi in May 2022 and has endured a frustrating period on the sidelines due to injuries. Nevertheless, he is now fit and eager to fight. If Bivol chooses a different opponent, Richards could potentially face Northern Ireland-born Australian Conor Wallace.
