Paul Spadafora gained widespread recognition for a 1999 sparring session he shared with Floyd Mayweather. The footage, which clearly shows Floyd being outboxed and outthought, has been viewed millions of times on various platforms such as YouTube.
Despite the popularity of the video, Spadafora believes it is not worth dwelling on the past and boasting about outperforming the legendary Mayweather in sparring. He feels that it is not realistic to compare himself to Mayweather, who is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Spadafora expresses his frustration, stating, “It makes me sick to talk about that. You’re talking about a guy who they say is arguably the best fighter ever. Don’t talk about me and him. That’s not reality. I had a good day in the gym, he didn’t have a good day in the gym. It was just a sparring match. Do you know how many times I was in a sparring match with another fighter that almost beat me? It wasn’t like I beat him like that, but I had a good day and he had a bad day.”
He reflects on how the misleading portrayal of the sparring session on YouTube hindered his chances of securing a fight with Mayweather. However, Spadafora has moved on from pursuing that opportunity, realizing that Mayweather may not be interested in facing him.
