Caroline Dubois targeting future fights against Mayer and Baumgardner

CAROLINE DUBOIS goes for win number seven on Friday and soon hopes to land a fight against one of the biggest names in women’s boxing.

Yanina del Carmen Lescano 13-2 (4) will have her first contest in the UK when she takes on the heavy-handed Dubois over eight rounds. Such has been the rapid development of the young lightweight the task looks an unenviable one for the Argentinian.

Dubois, whose older brother Daniel will challenge Oleksandr Usyk for the heavyweight championship on August 26 in Poland, wants a marquee fight on her own record.

“I’ve been vocal, I want Mikaela Mayer,” she told the Daily Mail.

“She’s someone I’ve been chasing and someone I’ve been looking up to. She’s helped break down so many barriers in the sport and someone who’s been pushing forward and creating those big fights.”

Mayer, 10 years older than Dubois, has fought in the UK in her last two fights with one loss and one win against Alycia Baumgardner and Lisa Wildheart, respectively.

“We saw her in a massive fight with Alycia Baumgardner, she helped create that so it’s amazing,” Dubois said.

“I have a lot of respect for her, but I want to step in the ring and take everything that she’s got. People respect her as a world champion or former world champion, and I think if I can go in there and take that fight and beat her then I take that.”

Dubois doesn’t just have Mayer marked down as a future opponent but Baumgardner as well.

“I heard after Baumgardner’s next fight against Christina Linardatou, if she avenges her loss, she’s been vocal that she will move up a weight to 135. Then my division is booming.

“The lightweight division for the women and the men is absolutely on fire. We’ve got so many great people coming through and there’s so many good champions around. Alycia Baumgardner, she’s done a lot. I would love to share the ring with her and fight her and beat her one day.”
