UNBEATEN lightweight Cameron Vuong is no longer satisfied with being a prospect and has named the opponent he wants to face in order to propel himself to the next level.
The 22-year-old from Blyth improved his record to 6-0 (3 KOs) with an eight-round points victory (79-73) against Joe Underwood Hughes at Wembley Arena last night.
Vuong, who is trained by Jamie Moore, expressed his frustration after two scheduled fights against Jordan Flynn were canceled due to injuries on both sides. Following his win over Hughes, Vuong didn’t hold back in his comments about Flynn.
“Listen, it’s never going to happen. The man is avoiding the fight. He turned down the opportunity to fight on November 30. He doesn’t have the courage to face me. He’s only relevant because of me. He won’t have another Matchroom fight unless it’s against me next.”
Vuong is eager to transition from being a prospect to a contender and has identified a former British and European lightweight champion as a possible future opponent.
“I’m ready to face anyone, anywhere. I would love to compete in Saudi Arabia. Someone like Gavin Gwynne would be a great challenge for me. I believe it’s time for me to take a step up. I no longer want to be considered just a prospect. Tonight’s performance wasn’t my best, but I will show my true potential in the future, God willing.”
In other fights on the card, super-welterweight contender Chris Kongo defeated Jacob Quinn over six rounds with a score of 59-55 on referee Sean McAvoy’s card. Aadam Hamed also secured a shutout victory over Santiago Garces, improving his record to 3-0 (1 KO).
