Burning vehicle ignites Superior home – Duluth News Tribune

SUPERIOR — Occupants escaped injury early Sunday, Sept. 24, after a passenger vehicle fire spread to a home at 1917 E. Sixth St.

The Superior Fire Department was dispatched to the address at 2:17 a.m. On the scene, they discovered that fire had spread from the vehicle to the siding and attic of the two-story home, according to a news release. Everyone was safely outside the home, the release said.

“The first arriving fire unit attacked the exterior fire while additional fire units advanced hose lines to the interior through the front and side doors to locate and extinguish the attic fire,” the fire department reported. Crews remained on the scene until about 5:30 a.m. Damage is estimated at about $50,000.

“All three on-duty engine companies worked the fire. Additional off-duty fire crews serviced emergency calls during the fire,” the release said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Mayo Ambulance, the Superior Police Department and Superior Water, Light, and Power assisted at the scene.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
