TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Barbara O. Weber, 88, of Traverse City, Michigan and formerly of Gwinn, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 13th, 2022, at MediLodge of Grand Traverse County in Traverse City. She was in the company of her daughter and a dear friend.
Barbara was born on April 27th, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Peter and Ollerene (McCutcheon) Huemme. She was raised in Brooklyn and moved to Hicksville, NY in her teen years.
Following high school graduation, Barbara worked for AT&T and married Edward Weber on December 12th, 1953, in Hicksville.
Barbara and Edward moved to the Gwinn area and built a home on Bertrand Lake in 1961, when he was stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, and returned permanently when he retired. Barbara was proud to be a USAF officer’s wife and supported him by moving many times over the course of his career and often raising their three children single handedly.
Barbara enjoyed her time as a volunteer at the Forsyth Senior Center and as a member of the Marquette Church of Christ.
Barbara was practical, smart, financially wise and had a passion for identifying wildflowers and birds that she passed on to her children. There was nothing she cherished more than their home on the lake.
Barbara is survived by her children, Warren (Christine) Weber of Bulls Gap, TN; Charles Weber of Santa Rosa, CA; and Caroline (Mark) Kennedy of Traverse City; grandchildren, Vijaykumar and Namith Kennedy; stepgrandchildren, Chelsea (Timothy) Borton and Taylor Kennedy of Lansing and brother, Peter Huemme, Jr. of Hicksville.
esides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Major Edward Weber (retired).
The family wishes to express special thanks to Barbara’s friend, Cheryl Clinton of Traverse City for her love and support, and to her friends in Gwinn for their many years of treasured companionship.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15th, at 11 a.m., at Canale Gwinn Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Minister Jim Larsen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. A luncheon will be served in the Lindeman Reception Room at the funeral home following the service. Private interment will take place at the Gwinn Cemetery.
