Eleanor D. (Broadt) Shaffer, 88, formerly of Tipton, died peacefully Wednesday morning. She was born in Bloomsburg, daughter of the late Robert C. and Eliza A. (Ney) Broadt.

On Nov. 24, 1955, she married John E. Shaffer Jr. at Community of Christ Church, Bloomsburg. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 2011.

Surviving are a son, Greg E. (Annie) of Rochester, N.Y.; two grandsons, Ryan and Nathan; and a brother, Kenneth (Shirley) Broadt.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kelly L., in 2016; and a sister, Wanda Pogozelski.

Eleanor was a 1951 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, where she majored in accounting.

She was employed in various bookkeeping positions before finding her niche in the tax business, working for more than 35 years. For many of those years, she was owner and operator of the H&R Block franchise in Tyrone.

Eleanor was a lifetime member of Community of Christ Church, Bloomsburg.

She was a member of the Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and was currently serving as vice president of Tyrone Business and Professional Women. Eleanor was an active volunteer at her church and within her community. She enjoyed attending reunions, camping at Deer Park Campground in New Hope and spending time with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandsons, whom she loved dearly.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood; and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at Allen Funeral Home Inc., Bloomsburg.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at Allen Funeral Home Inc., Bloomsburg. Interment will be at New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Eleanor’s memory be made to Community of Christ Church, 750 Market St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
